Kampala — MENGO Katikkiro John Baptist Walusimbi has advised parents to educate their children to become responsible future leaders.

The message was contained in a statement read by Kyaddondo county chief, Tofiri Maleokweza, during the 10th anniversary of Aidan College, Ndejje on Friday.

During the function, the students showcased traditional dances and plays. The school that started in 1998, has a population of over 600 students.

Maleokweza said the Mengo government was committed to educating young people by providing scholarships to the disadvantaged.

He commended the proprietor of the school, saying this had reduced the burden of parents moving their children long distances looking for schools.

Walusimbi commended teachers and parents for installing good morals in the students.

Maleokweza advised students to participate in extra-curricular activities.

"You should not depend on academics only because extra-curricular activities are important," he said.

The school's director, Emmanuel Kigozi Ssempala, said the academic performance of the school had improved.

"We started in a humble way with few students. Some of them were my children," he said.

He appealed to the Government to exempt private schools from taxes. He said the school had built more structures that would cater for the growing number of students.
