Nigeria: Monetisation Arrears - Nulge to Tarry a While

The president of the National Union of Local Governemnt Employees (NULGE), FCT branch,Malam Musa Dauda has said union members will receive their outstanding arrears of the monetisation only after the completion of modalities resulting from the new directives from government.
Malam Dauda who made this disclosure during a chat with LEADERSHIP, stated that the executive members of NULGE have been fighting for the payment of the arrears but however added that bureaucratic processes of the government has been the reasons for the delay.
The union president also revealed that the Federal Government recently issued a circular directing all branches to use a new modalities in sending their request on the payment of the arrears.
"We have been holding meetings with the relevant authorities including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and the result of the meeting was a recent directive that we compile our names and other information needed to take actions," he said.
Dauda further said that during the payment of the actual monetisation, those on the directorate levels were paid alongside with their down sized workers, but efforts are being made to separate these categories.
He noted that, these preparations will lead government into next year while the actual payment will be effected as this arrears were not reflected in the 2008 budget.
Commenting on his achievement since becoming the NULGE president, Malam Dauda said the most outstanding achievement recorded during by administration was his ability to create peace at the work environment.
"Prior to my coming, there was no functional secretariat, but now we have one coupled with the establishment of NULGE Voice the union's news letter. This is beside our plans to build a NULGE House", he further explained.
