Nigeria/Sierra Leone: Why Super Eagles Must Beat Seirra Leone - Amodu

Head coach of the senior national team, the Super Eagles Amodu Shuaibu, said yesterday that Saturday's game against Sierra Leone at the Abuja National Stadium is a must-win match and that everything is being done by the technical crew and the players to ensure that the team further maintains a clean slate among countries that have not conceded any goal through out the World Cup and African Cup of Nations qualifiers .

Amodu said it is imperative the Eagles beat Seirra Leone so that Nigeria can gain the maximum points that would make them qualify to be seeded by CAF and FIFA during the second round of draws expected next year.

"We obviously want to win because it is very important to keep a clean slate. If we win, we would have been able to garner 18 points which again, is an advantage to us when it comes to World Cup and Nations Cup draws next year.

"You are all aware of the rules for the seeding. FIFA considers three rules. The first one is that there are 20 points allotted to all the three key areas they consider. One is your performance at last Nations Cup. Take for example, Egypt won and they came first with 20 points. The second position would be 19 while the third earn 18 points. It goes down the line and Nigeria by the position they finished which is 7th, I think we have 14 points.

"The next point they consider is our group performance, if we clear all the matches, it means we would be having 20 points clear. The last one is the present position in Africa and in the world in terms of current FIFA ranking. I think we are 4th and that would mean we will be having 17 points.

"All the points put together qualifies you for seeding. So, you can see from that angle why it is important for us to get enough points to be considered for seeding. We want to take Saturday's game against Sierra Leone very seriously," he stressed.
