Addis Abeba — UK provides the fourth round education partnership opportunity for governmental and private higher educating institutions in Ethiopia that aim to build their capacity through research, training in partnership with well established Universities all over the world, said a business director of UK-Africa Higher Education Partnership yesterday.
The business director, Netsanet Demewoz, in a press conference at the British Council here said that priority was given to institutions which come up with partnership proposals in the areas of Science & technology, Engineering, Governance & Human rights, and Business & enterprise.
Applications on other subject areas are also welcome provided that the application clearly demonstrates how the project will contribute towards the achievement of the overall goal of Development Partnership in Higher Education (DelPHE).
Currently nine DelPHE projects are on going which focus on health, education, science and peace and security issues. The projects have created capacity through research and training in Addis Ababa, Gondar, Hawassa, Bahir Dar and Adamma Universities through partnership with Cardiff, Bradford, Cambridge, York and Nottingham, Southampton, Stirling, Leeds Metropolitan and King's College Universities in the UK.
Up to 1.1 million birr per project is available for projects on capacity building, employability and entrepreneurship. Travel grants for partnership development are also available. The application dead lines are 28 November 2008 and 31 October 2008, according to Netsanet.
Ethiopian institutions are one of beneficiaries of Education Partnerships in Africa (EPA) among higher Education institutions in sub-Sahara Africa. The program is funded by the UK Department for Innovation, Universities and skills (DIUS) and managed by the British Council.
The project manager, Dagnachew Desta, said that 74 partnership projects are to be established for three years program that funded 5.4 million Pounds. The Education Partnership in Africa primarily aims for further education and higher education institutions to engage in partnership with Sub-Saharan African universities and training institutions to build institutional capacity as well as develop employability skills for local economies including entrepreneurship and social enterprises.
