Addis Ababa — New website containing a range of assorted web pages of agricultural and natural development organizations was launched with the aim of enabling all members and the general public to connect and share best practices and experiences, announced Sustainable Land Use Forum (SLUF) on Tuesday.
Dr. Habtemariam Abate, Executive Director of SLUF, a non profit-making organization, at the website launching workshop program held at the Ethiopian Institute of Agriculture Research (EIAR) under the title of "Connecting the Forum", said the website was launched in view of facilitating exchange of Sustainable Land Use (SLU) and Natural Resource Management (NRM) information between its members and other stakeholders including policy makers, researchers, development practitioners, students and farmers as one of the major activities of the project.
According to the director, the overall website development has cost over 2 million birr. Currently SLUF is implementing "Land Use Information and Data Base Management Project" funded by European Commission Civil Society Fund (EC-CSF) in Ethiopia, Dr. Habtemariam added.
Organizations posted on the website display necessary information paying a price of 2000 birr per year. However 59 percent of tax cost will be covered by SLUF. At the mean time 21 member organizations who are working on natural resource related works join the website.
Sustainable Land Use Forum (SLUF) is a local NGO engaged in promoting Sustainable Land Use and Natural Resource Management practices in the country through building the capacity of its members, information collection, documentation and the community at large.
Government officials, civil society representatives, researchers from higher education institutions attended the workshop.
