Kampala — Uganda Breweries, through their Guinness brand have officially formalised their partnership with Gateway Television (GTV) to screen the English Premier League (EPL) in Uganda.
During a press conference held in Kampala yesterday, Guinness Marketing Manager Fred Otieno announced that they will give away 100 fully operational satellite dishes and decoders as part of its global sponsorship of the EPL
"100 sports bars in the Kampala region are eligible to win in this specialized promotion that also comes with one-year's free subscription.
Sports bars will have to sign an agreement with Guinness on trade terms and agree to participate in bar sports activations that will run until the end of the EPL," said Otieno.
Otieno reasoned that the flamboyance, vibrancy and absolute entertainment that football gives the people in Uganda had prompted them to initiate a partnership.
GTV's involvement means they will offer subsidized communal packages to the sports bars courtesy of Guinness.
"Currently GTV has rights to broadcast over 300 live EPL matches this season," said Peter Mungoma, GTV's sales and marketing manager.
"We have entered into a partnership with Guinness to provide specialised pre and post match analysis to our viewers across Africa."
The Guinness-GTV partnership covers Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Nigeria, Ghana and South Africa where the two have operational bases.
