Angola: Painter Prepares Exhibition for December

9 October 2008

Luanda — An exhibition entitled "Empirical Taxi Driver", by Angolan plastic artist Hildebrando de Melo "HM", will be inaugurated in December, in Luanda.

According to Hildebrando de Melo, who gave an interview to ANGOP, the exposition that will comprise twenty pictures calls the attention of Angolan taxi drivers about the dangers and consequences of their reckless driving.

Although there are exemplary taxi drivers, said the artist, most of them drive in an intolerable way, thus causing a chaos on the road.

"The exhibition also aims at showing that the building of a modern Angola also includes the respect for the laws in force in the country, in this case, the traffic regulation code" he said.

HM reminds that the country is taking its first steps towards progress, after so many years of war, so all should play their parts for this goal.

The 29 year-old plastic artist, who comes from the central Huambo Province, has already presented six individual exhibitions and participated in various collective displays in Angola, Portugal and the United States of America.

HM won in 2004 the Ensarte contest in the Youth category, promoted by the state-owned insurance company Ensa, as well as won the "Sona Desenhos na Areia" competition promoted by the Norwegian oil firm Nosk Hydro.
