Uganda: No Reason Can Justify Abortion

Kampala — ON September 15, 2008, The New Vision carried a full-page advertisement from Marie Stopes International Uganda in which the advertiser stated that, "Marie Stopes International Uganda subscribes to the Marie Stopes International's goal and mission, which is to prevent unwanted births and to ensure the individual's right to children by choice not chance."

That statement is typical of a pro-choice movement. To talk about "unwanted births" and "children by choice not chance" is to have disregard for human life and to promote abortion. I appreciate the importance of family planning for married couples, but not the choice for abortion as a family planning method.

Abortion is an evil that should not be allowed to flourish in any society. I am afraid pro-choice organisations are pushing women into abortion as a human right to the extent that women will prefer abortion to babies at a particular time. Yet abortion is a bigger problem than "unwanted babies."

There are women who go for an abortion because a scan report indicated that the foetus had deformations or because it was a result of unwanted sex. This is deplorable. A woman's choice should be life for her unborn baby. The evil choice of abortion is not a choice.

Marie Stopes International works in 40 countries and is the largest provider of abortion and contraception in the UK.

www.lifesitenews.com says, Marie Stopes International is due to host a conference in London to promote safe abortion internationally.

Whether abortion is safe or unsafe does not make it right. Marie Stopes on its website, www.mariestopes.org.uk says, abortion is one of its services! I hope it is not laying the foundation for its international abortion campaign in Uganda.

Cardinal Renato Martino of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace, while denouncing Amnesty International's decision to promote abortion rights, said, "Abortion is cloaked in human rights language, but in reality it undermines the very human rights it portends to support. Its logical conclusion is the destruction of life and all of the life-giving values that we as a human family and as a society should be grateful for. Let us stop the war against the unborn child."
