Tunis — President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali received on Thursday, Mr Raouf Basti , Minister of Culture and Heritage Preservation, who briefed him on the preparations underway for the coming cultural season.
Within this context, the Head of State issued recommendations to fine tune preparations for the 22 nd session of the Carthage Cinema Days (JCC), which is due to take place from October 25 to November 1, 2008, to enable this prestigious festival to retain its pioneering role in the showcasing of Arab and African cinema.
He also recommended to further prepare for the celebration of the event "Kairouan , 2009 Islamic Capital", stressing in this context the importance of cooperation with the Islamic Organisation of Sciences , Education and Culture (ISESCO), to ensure that the event be up to the historical reputation of the city of Kairouan and the pioneering role it played throughout the ages at the service of Islamic civilization.
President Ben Ali also focused on the programs set up for the celebration of the centenary of Tunisia's great Poet, Abou El Kacem El Chebbi , as well as that of the Tunisian theatre which will also take place in 2009.
The Head of State further stressed the importance of opening up the dialogue with intellectuals and creators, so as to associate them to the promotion of cultural programs. He also highlighted the need to strengthen the position of artists and to grant social aid and assistance to those among them who most need it.
