Harare — Following the club's defeat to Underhill in a CBZ Premiership tie at the weekend, CAPS United supporters last night held a crisis meeting in the capital where mixed feelings over the fate of coach Jostein Mathuthu and the executive emerged, reports Augustine Hwata.

Some supporters pushed for the ouster of Mathuthu while others called for the executive to put their house in order.

CAPS United are fourth from bottom on the 16-team Premiership table and are in danger of relegation despite clinching the ABC Super 8 following a controversial 2-1 win over Lengthens at Rufaro last month.

CAPS United supporters' executive chairman Abraham Kawadza last night called for more support of coach Mathuthu at the simmering meeting where half of the fans and the sponsors wanted the coach to go.

"Our coach has won us the ABC Super 8 Cup and this has revived the semblance of Cup Kings to us.

"As supporters we feel that we need to give maximum support to the coach and ensure that we survive relegation this season.

"Every team goes though a bad patch and this is what we are going through," said Kawadza.

Kawadza said it would premature for CAPS United fans to judge Mathuthu and the executive at this stage.

"This is not the time to be bringing petty differences to the team.

'We have to stand as the CAPS United family and see that the team survives relegation.

"We have the passion for the team and we have the players, but we lack the unity of purpose," said Kawadza.

While Kawadza called for unity another support, Tonhodzai Matanhire, called on the club's directors Twine Phiri and Farai Jere to climb down to the demands of the fans.

"Jere and Phiri are sponsors but were are supporters of the team.

"I have for a long time been sending a document on the way forward for CAPS United.

"I said we should have Jere and Phiri and any other people as the sponsors and then come up with a football executive," said Matanhire.

Matanhire said Phiri and Jere were being driven more by emotions in running the team.

"Phiri and Jere put more money and could be hurt more.

"But as supporters we are here to stay and need a football executive than people who have the money and passion but have got no idea how to run football," said Matanhire.

At the moment there is a disagreement at CAPS United where some players are training while others have remained boycotting sessions over a stand-off with the coach.
