Nigeria: Appeal Court - Ijaw Group Prays for Agagu's Victory

As Ondo State and indeed Nigerians await the Appeal Court verdict in the pending appeal by Governor Agagu over the disputed April 14, 2007 polls, the Izon (Ijaw) Business Association (IBA), Abuja branch, says they are praying to Almighty God to grant victory to embattled Governor Agagu for his love for the Ijaw.

Calling on well meaning Ijaw to pray against agents of destabilisation in the State, the IBA, in a statement by Messrs Edoulo Wusin (of Ondo State), Temor Emebour (of Ondo State), Timi Jacob (of Delta State) and Binakire Wei (of Bayelsa State) who are Chairman, Secretary, Speaker and Treasurer respectively of the group, said Agagu needs Ijaw support for bringing them into the governance of resources of which they are major contributors.

"We declare our loyalty and support for Governor Agagu. By his novel actions of being the first to establish an oil commission in the Niger Delta (OSOPADEC), the appointment of an Ijaw (Mr. Isaacs Duerimini Kekemeke), a minority group in the state, as Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and the deliberate efforts to open up the Ijaw areas in the state through construction of roads like the Agadagba-Oboh road, and concrete jetties in several Ijaw communities namely Arogbo, Biagbene among others long neglecteed by successive administrations, we trust that the future is bright with Governor Agagu on the saddle", the IBA stated.

The IBA maintained that Agagu had proved by his approach that the Nigerian federation can be fair to resource-yielding Niger Deltans even as they tasked other Niger Delta governors to emulate Agagu by making minorities to feel a sense of belonging in their respective states for sustainable peace.
