Kampala — National cricket coach Mohammed Ebrahim Barney is positive his charges are about to hit their peak ahead of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Division 3 World Cricket League scheduled for late January in Buenos Airies, Argentina.

The 47-year-old Barney has been tutoring a provisional squad of 20 players at the BMK Gym at Hotel Africana, Lugogo and Kyambogo oval with various physical body-building, mental fitness and match practice drills for the past two and a half months.

The national team heads to Nairobi this Sunday for a series of warm-up matches against top sides including Zimbabwe, Ireland and Kenya and Barney says that the 10-day tour will give the team invaluable exposure.

"We need as many tours as possible. Hopefully the organizers in Kenya don't give us minimal opposition in NPCA XI, Kenya U-19 and Kenya Select sides because it won't get the best out of us," Barney told Daily Monitor yesterday as the team played a trial match at Kyambogo oval.

Barney disclosed that he would be traveling to Dar-es Salaam, Tanzania to watch the final of the Division IV ICC WCL together with team manager Richard Mwami and Uganda Cricket Association (UCA) chairman Dr Kato Sebbaale.

"Watching the final will give me an insight of at least two of the teams we shall play in Argentina. I will do some recording and carry back some footage so that we can have an edge. I also want to gauge the quality of cricket being played. We don't want to be taken by surprise when we go to Buenos Airies," added Barney. Barney concluded that he would select (today) fifteen players with the right attitude for the Kenya tour.

October 12-24: Kenya Tour

Nov 9-30: South Africa Tour

December 15-21: Afripals Tour
