Uganda: Tusker Lager Joins Jazz Fest

10 October 2008

Kampala — Tusker Lager has joined the team organising the Kampala International Jazz Festival due to take place this weekend.

Tusker, who are also the title sponsors of the music reality TV show Project Fame, are supporting the first ever jazz event in Kampala alongside telecommunication giants Warid Telecom.

Jazz heavyweights Miriam Makeba, Oliver Mtukudzi (pix) and Third World Love will team up with Ugandan's best including Isaiah Katumwa, Joel Sebonju, Baxmba Waves, Godfrey Lubuulwa and Soul Beat Africa to entertain jazz enthusiasts at Munyonyo on this Independence weekend.

There will also be freebies during the two-day event, according to the Tusker Malt Lager Brand Manager Diana Nyikiriize. She said they have joined the bandwagon because the festival's objectives include "promoting Ugandan local and international jazz artistes and festivals in Uganda as a tourist activity as well as creating a tradition of jazz celebration in Kampala, which we also fully support."

The festival will also include interactive workshops for young artistes, open jam sessions every evening after the shows and quality jazz. Other activities will include jazz movies, meetings with artistes, traditional musical instruments and Afro-jazz. The concerts will take place at Speke Resort Munyonyo.

Meanwhile, dancehall ace Peter Miles and pal Menshan performed at the Big Brother eviction party in South Africa last week, however, the trip yielded more than just a single performance.

The duo flew back to Uganda early in the week, but they will be travelling back to South Africa for a couple of shows organised by a Ugandan promoter based in South African.

Miles said he was absolutely amazed at the huge fan-base he holds in South Africa and he was very optimistic to return to Mandela's homeland for a string of shows.
