Nigeria: Makinwa Must Leave Italy - Amokachi

10 October 2008

Super Eagles assistant coach Daniel Amokachi has advised SS Lazio forward Ayo Makinwa to leave Italy in order to save his career.

Makinwa returned to Lazio at the start of this season from a loan spell at Regina where he failed to score in 9 appearances. So far, he has yet to make any appearance for the Rome club.

He has also lost his place in the Super Eagles after the 2008 African Nations Cup and Amokachi, who is the national team assistant coach, says Makinwa needs to try a different country.

"I think the problem he has may be that he has been in Italy for too long and maybe it is not favouring him. He should try a different country and a different league," Amokachi said while doing studio analysis on the Serie A.

"There are players who have done badly in one country and when they moved to another country, they did a fantastic job. Like Diego Forlan, or Claudio Pizzaro.

"I believe that Makinwa is a good player, but he should try to look for somewhere that favours his style and where the coach believes in him."
