Lagos — NEWLY appointed Chief of Naval staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Ishaq Ibrahim on Wednesday warned naval officials to exhibi professionalism or risk sanctions.
Addressing senior naval officers at Nigerian Navy (NN) Quuorra, Apapa, Lagos Admiral Ibrahim said the navy under his leadership has no reason not to excel and meet the expectation of government and people of Nigeria.
The CNS, who sounded tough said "you know the weight on our shoulders. All of us know that the nation looks upon us for survival from the sea, The state looks upon us for territorial protection and other services, we cannot afford to fail. The nation has the confidence that her resources at sea should be protected by us".
The naval authorities he said would frustrate unscrupulous persons who he described as 'people who abduct' others at creeks and seas, stressing that he would chart a new course to restore the degnity of the force.
"I want to chart a new course for all of us let's get ourselves prepared and come out collectively and find out the root cause . Let's our hands together so that we need a value to our measures (achievements).
Enjoing divisional heads to properly cordinate their units the naval chief said he will not condone indiscipline among officers.
He vowed to vaire the navy to a new heights,urged officers to contructively criticise him instead of blackmailing him.
I am not to be shielded. I am open and I will rspect your views. I don't want rummors. I am against purbment but let i not be to witchunt over feel free to air your views through the appropriate quarters" he added.
The CNS who claimed he was informed of his appointment as CNS on phone whne he was going to Jaji, Kaduna state lamented the dearth of ships. saying in his command"Any one who visits the dock yard will agree wih me that we have a lot to do
