Namibia: Zim Warriors Arrive for Battle Against Kid Brother

Windhoek — The talent laden Zimbabwean football team the Warriors wasted little time upon their arrival in Windhoek, and immediately knuckled down to some serious business on the training pitch at Windhoek's Independence Stadium last night.

Zimbabwe still have a chance of overtaking second placed Guinea with a comprehensive victory over Namibia and pin their hopes on Kenya to beat Guinea in the other Group-2 final match. Namibia have all but kissed goodbye to any slim hopes they might have entertained of carving themselves a place amongst Africa's top 16 football nations when the 27th edition of the African Cup of Nations gets under way in Angola in 2010.

There will be no love lost when the two Southern African neighbours meet in Group-2 of the 2010 FIFA preliminaries and CAF 2010 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at Windhoek's Independence Stadium, tomorrow afternoon.

Despite the unavoidable absence of players from Zimbabwe's glamour football club Dynamos - the Zimbabweans have brought a strong 18-member squad, which demonstrates their intentions of grabbing the valuable three points at stake.

"We don't underestimate Namibia because we have been following their progress since the arrival of new coach Tom Saintfiet with keen interest. He has done a tremendous job within a short period of time and they could be dangerous - especially at home with pride very much at stake," said Zimbabwe's team manager Ernest Sibanda at the team's practice session in Windhoek last night.

Sibanda added that the morale in the camp was very high and emphasized the importance of winning tomorrow's match against all odds. "Like I've said earlier, Namibia have improved a lot but we are also looking at improving our rankings on FIFA - so I predict a good match between two well-balanced sides."

The Zimbabwean squad reads as follows:

Tapuwa Kapini, Energy Murambadoro, David Kutyauripo, Onismor Bhasera, Zhaimu Jambo, Zvenyika Makonese, James Matola, Obert Moyo, Method Mwanjali, Esrom Nyandoro, Tinashe Nengomasha, Clemence Matawu, Joel Lupahla, Ovidy Karuru, Quincy Antipas, Pride Tafirenyika, Cuthbert Malajila and Gilbert Mushangazike.
