Namibia: Entertainment Galore Come November

Windhoek — Come 1st of November, in what could be seen as the first November festival of its kind the capital has ever seen, Windhoek comes alive with a big party when it hosts South Africa's mbaqanga music giant, the Soul Brothers.

A big plus for the Soul Brothers Namibian fans is that the band's 34th album, Amacala, has just been released. So Namibian fans can brave themselves for a big music jamboree. Making the party a must for Namibian revellers is that revellers will also be able to rub shoulders with their favourite TV soapie stars of Second Chance fame. These are none other than this soapie's starts that flighted on One Africa Television last season, Salvador (Mario Cimarro) and Angela (Vanessa Villela).

To crown it all Namibia's own home born and bred artists: Katja, Big Ben, !Oubasen, Tequilla, Mutuarari, and Afro-shine are all in the line-up.

The Soul Brothers outfit, which needs no introduction to Namibian music lovers, is renowned for its consistency and good music. Even in the face of growth of other music genres like popular and hip-hop, the group has been standing its own ground with its own genre of mbaqanga music. In Namibia the group has a big following with their genre of music forming a basis for dancing competitions.

The outfit emerged out of a group called the Groovy Boys formed in the 1970s. Its three founding members were bassist Zenzele "Zakes" Mchunu, drummer and vocalist David Masondo and guitarist Tuza Mthethwa. The trio went to Johannesburg where they met and recruited keyboarder Moses "Black Moses" Ngwenya, who had done session work for Izintombi Zezi Manje Manje, among others. When Black Moses, who had a jazz and soul music background joined the group, it was renamed the Soul Brothers.

Mario Cimarro, that is Salvador, arrived in Mexico City to realise his long life dream of becoming an actor. When he graduated he began to pursue roles that would allow him to grow as an artist. His credits include Romeo and Juliet for 20th Century Fox directed by Bazz Lehmann and Manaqua Astra Cinema starring Louis Gosset Jr. Soon he began to get offers for work in other countries and travelled to Argentina, Venezuela and Colombia where he worked in each of these countries with top writers, producers and directors.

He starred in two of Latin America's cultural series, Passion de Gavilanes and El Cuerpo del Deseo (Second Chance), which featured on One Africa Television in Namibia last season.

In 2007 Mario moved to Los Angeles, ever eager to learn and polish his craft in American cinema starring in Rockaway for First Look Studios directed by the Crook Brothers for which he received acclaim for his portrayal of Juju. He also starred as SN in Puras Joyitas directed by Cesar Oropeza shortly thereafter. Puras Joyitas rose to become a number one box office hit in Venezuela.

Vanessa is a young actress and has about 11 telenovelas to her credit, having begun the 'race' in 1999. Her greatest fame yet came from Second Chance, also known as Body of Desire out of all her 11 telenovela credits, scoring a high total of 9454 rating by Internet Movie Database meter.

Second Chance is about a man, Pedro Jose Donoso (Andreas Garcia), who comes back from the dead and discovers dark secrets about his beautiful window Isabela Arroyo (Lorena Rojas). Pedro dies suddenly but returns in the body of Salvador Cerinza, a handsome but poor family man.

Through Salvador, the reincarnated Pedro searches for everything he lost, uncovering secrets, truths and deceptions. Ultimately he must set things straight and save those who truly loved him. Vanessa Villela plays the role of Angela his daughter.
