Nigeria: IFAD to Establish Resources Management Programmes in Imo

Owerri — A delegation of the International Fund for Agriculture Development (IFAD) has visted Ikeduru Local Government to explore the possibility of establishing community based Natural Resources Management Programmes in selected communities in the council area.

The team led by Mr. Orjiako explained that the community based Natural resources Management Programmes would enhance the lives of about 400,000 rural poor in teh Niger Delta Region with emphasis on women and youths.

He explained that the programmes would be jointly funded by the federal, state and local governments.

Responding, the Transition Committee Chairman of Ikeduru local government area, Chief Ezeaku Anyanwu, promised that the local government would participate fully in the programme.

In another development, the Chairman of Imo State Local Government Service Commission, Chief Tim Ohuaka, has commended the Nigerian Institute of Safety Professionals, Imo State Chapter, for executing programmes to complement the Clean and Green Initiative of the Ikedi Ohakim administration.

"Safety, especially of the environment and health is so important to be overlooked. Every Nigerian citizen must seek ways of ensuring safety in their daily activities", Ohuaka said.

He assured the Institute of the readiness of the Commission to partner with it in the areas of office/home safety, as well as in the training of staff, especially health personnel for efficient service in the unified local government system.
