Abuja — Nine months after it was mandated to probe alleged expenditure of $16 billion by former President Olusegun Obasanjo's administration on power sector between 1999 and 2007, the House of Representatives Committee on Power finally presented its report to the House on Thursday.

The House, however, deferred debate on the report till a later date.

Committee Chairman, Godwin Elumelu, laid the report, which is in eight volumes barely 24 hours after the committee members were absolved of allegation of receiving N100 million bribe to doctor the report.

The Ethics and Privileges Committee of the House, which probed the Power Committee, submitted its report on Wednesday.

It was debated and adopted the same day.

Apart from the bribery allegation, the committee was mired in other controversies, including division among its members over the aborted appearance of Obasanjo and over the compilation of the report in a hotel.

Elumelu presented the report contained in a big travelling bag during the plenary session.

Volume 1, which is the main report, contains the operational process, findings, summary of recommendations and conclusions while Volume 2 contains appendices.

Volumes 3 and 4 contain the Status Reports of NIPP Projects and PHCN Projects, respectively while Volumes 5 and 6 contain the Status Reports of NNPC Joint Venture Power Projects and PHCN Host Generation and Legacy, respectively.

Volumes 7 and 8 contain the Overview Report of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) Projects and Album of Picture images of some ailing or failed projects.
