Nigeria: Help Check Hemp Smokers' Activities At Alagbado

editorial

The activities of the 'area boys', who smoke Indian hemp in Meiran, Adura, Agbado Station and other parts of Alagbado, are becoming a threat to the residents. This is because they always gather in groups to smoke and at the same time foment trouble while the residents always live in constant fear over falling victims to their activities.

They are seen early in the morning at some shopping complexes and motor parks in the area. They also bully the traders in these areas and extort money from them while they harass passers-by. They are fond of causing trouble anytime they gather in groups smoking.

They are seen smoking and brandishing Indian hemp as if it is honorable. Their unruly behaviour, including smoking of Indian hemp as early as 8am, is a bad influence on the children.

The enforcement agents should come to the aid of the traders and residents who are at the mercy of these boys. The state government should also ban public smoking, especially smoking of Indian hemp.
