In a bid to fast track development in Bayelsa, the state government has released the sum of N10 billion to contractors handling various contracts for the state government.
The Senior Special Assistant to the state Governor on Media, Mr. Preye Wariowei, in an interview in Yenagoa said the funds were released in September.
The companies that benefited from the September payment, he said included Messer Global Services Ltd., handling the construction of Rennys-Azikoro Road , Amarata; Silverbird Galleria, handling the construction of Yenagoa Galleria and Burnsville Integrated Services Ltd., handling the dredging and stockpiling of two million cubic metres of sand at the Ox-bow Lake in the capital city.
According to him, funds were also released for the procurement of vehicles for various government units in the state, miscellaneous quick win projects, construction of Igumba/Opueme Road by NIIT, Etegwe by Tubos Ventures Ltd., and for the purchase of radiology equipment.
Others, the governor's aide said are Julius Berger handling the Central Senatorial Road and contractors handling various water, power, health and education projects in communities across the state.
He said various projects would be constructed in the state as the dry season sets in noting that Gov. Timipre Sylva is desirous of putting in place unprecedented infrastructural development.
