Nigeria: Desopadec to Open Liaison Offices in Host Communities

POISED to render quality service to oil bearing communities in Delta State, the State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC has restated its plans to open liaison officers in all the oil producing ethnic nationalities in the state.

Chairman of the Commission, Chief Wellington Okrika stated this recently at Ozoro, headquarter of Isoko North Local Government Area while inaugurating the new executive committee of Host Communities of Nigeria, Oil and Gas, Isoko chapter.

Those in the executive committee includes; Mr. Gabriel Isibeluo, Chairman, Mr. Navy Akpor, Vice Chairman, Mr. John Ukpeowe, Secretary, Mr. Jonathan Usigho, Assistant Secretary, Mr. Pius Adaigho, Treasurer, Mr. Kesiena Adhe, PRO, Mr. Oguh Ununotovo, Financial Secretary and Mr. Toff Oboba, Assistant Financial Secretary.

Others include; Mr. Matthew Ayera, Organising Secretary, Mrs. Rhoda Aduairo, Women Leader, Mrs. Roseline Evuraisarn, Assistant Women Leader, Barrister Joshua Otekpo, Legal Adviser, Mr. J.U. Akibe, Internal Auditor, Mr. Osunde Esunde, Youth leader, Mr. Fred Ewata, Assistant Youth Leader and Hon. Daniel Akpoili, Communities Affairs Co-ordinator.

Okrika said the need to open the liaison offices was informed by the decision to bring the operations of the commission nearer to the people with a view of giving close monitoring to projects of the commission in the rural communities.

According to him, the commission was determined to develop all the oil bearing communities in the state, charging the people of oil bearing communities to shun violence and create enabling environment for the commission to work.

Administering the oath of office on the executive committee, President General of the Isoko Development Union, IDU, Elder Peter Ovie Erebi enjoined the executive members to embrace the principles of equity, honesty and transparency in the discharge of their duties.

In his acceptance speech, chairman of the executive committee, Mr. Gabriel Isibeluo pledged to give the people quality representation and thanked the people for giving them the opportunity to serve.
