South Africa: Tug-of-War Over Hachilensa Goes On

10 October 2008

The long standing dispute between Free State based First Division clubs Carara Kicks and African Warriors over the services of Zambian defender Clive Hachilensa remains unresolved after the case was again postponed on Wednesday.

The postponement by the PSL's Disciplinary Committee was forced by the unavailability of Kicks' lawyer who asked for the adjournment on grounds of health.

Hachilensa is already registered with the PSL as a Carara player and continues to train with the team, but he is not playing even though he has a playing card from the League.

The former Free State Stars captain and Zesco player, who has also had a stint with IFK Mariehamn in Finland, has a two-year contract with Kicks, but Warriors are disputing this on the basis that he first signed a pre-contract with them before bargaining for a new deal from Carara.

"Hachilensa's work permit was sorted out by Carara and they even facilitated for his international clearance before he was registered," says a source close to the club.

"He admits that he did talk to Warriors by denies ever signing anything and therefore had the right to negotiate elsewhere."

The case is now expected to be heard at the end of the month.
