Sierra Leone: Ports Authority Receives Trophy

Champions of Africell sponsored 2007/2008 national premier league, Ports Authority FC Wednesday received their championship trophy from the company at a colourful ceremony held at Mamba Point.

Secretary General of Ports Authority, Idrissa Mago Tarawallie said they were delighted to receive the trophy despite the delay. He warned other clubs that they would retain the title next season.

Africell's Commercial Manager, Joe Amara Bangali said his company was committed to develop sports in the country adding that football is a recognized sport in the world as it breaks languages and barriers.

He said Africell believes that the country's national team, Leone Stars should be provided with every opportunity to take part in international competitions.

"We took the decision to exclusively sponsor the 2007/2008 premier league season because we believe that the league will provide players with an opportunity to develop their skills," Bangali said.

Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) Vice President (1) Joseph Kelfalah said the event marked an historic day in the country's football history.

Kelfalah said present day football is money adding that there is need to improve the game in the country.

Kelfalah thanked Africell for supporting football in the country.

Ibrahim Okomi Sesay of Kallon FC was crowned best player of 2007/2008 league season while Lahai Freeman aka Chandus was the season goal king with 10 goals scored.
