Kampala — KAMPALA Auxiliary Bishop Christopher Kakooza Katongole recently celebrated 25 years in priesthood at a thanksgiving mass at his residence in Nsambya.

Born and raised in an Anglican family, Kakooza, at the age of 12, opted to cross to the Catholic Church in 1964.

He became a priest on June 3, 1983 and, six years later, on January 30, 1999, Pope John Paul II appointed him Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Kampala.

Kakooza's uncle, Sam Julius Lukwago, said: "As the family, it is good for us to get a prominent person, who brings together the two churches. It is good to bridge two empires."

The bishop thanked everybody who had helped him come this far and paid tribute to his parents, the late Eriya Kaggwa Lujumwa and the late Serina Nagawa.

Born in a family of six, Kakooza studied in Kasubi Nursery, Nateete primary school, St. James Biina primary school and Naguru - Katale before joining Kololo SS.

Kakooza, who says he has been spiritual since childhood, has worked at Nyenga Seminary, Nakasongola Parish and Kamwokya Parish.
