Kigali — This year's National Basketball League play-offs initially scheduled to kick off today have been put on hold by the sport's local governing body, Ferwaba due to the ongoing refurbishment work at Amahoro's indoor stadium.
According to an official from the federation, the indoor stadium is undergoing renovation to make it more adaptable to rainy conditions.
"In the past, many games have had to be called off or delayed because of rain so the renovation work going on is partly to curb on that," the official said before conceding that he was not sure when the stadium would be ready.
"It's difficult to say when the stadium will be ready for use but we are hoping that it will be soon," he added.
This year, there is only one change from the quartet that took part in last year's play-offs. APR who are in for Espoir join the trio of defending champions Marine, CSK and Rusizi.
Marine cruised to last year's title after a compelling 3-0 game series victory over CSK but if the former can repeat that feat remains to be seen.
In the run to the play-offs, APR has been in impeccable form. The Indomitable Lions rewrote history when they became the first club in the history of Rwandan basketball to finish unbeaten in the regular season.
In the ladies' play-offs; defending champions APR, National University of Rwanda (UNR), ISAE and Rusizi's Gillbarham will also be in contention for the top prize.
