National secretary of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) Senator Saidu Kumo yesterday said he had no intention to relinquish his post, in spite of his recent appointment as presidential adviser on inter-party relations, as being canvassed by his 'political adversaries'.
Speaking through the national director of Publicity of the party, Comrade Sabo Muhammed, Kumo revealed that the post of national secretary is an elective position which has a specific time frame while that of presidential adviser was a call to national duty under an agreement reached between the other political parties and the ruling party under a government of national unity (GNU).
"I cannot relinquish an elective position simply because of the new appointment as a presidential adviser," Kumo said, stressing that his appointment was in line with the GNU pact reached between the PDP–led federal government and the ANPP as well as other political parties.
"This is a clarion call for national service and it is in the best interest of the country and for the interest for the nascent democracy as conceptualised by the GNU agreement.
"It is foolhardy for anyone to expect Kumo as ANPP national scribe to resign simply because he was asked to respond to national service.
The ANPP national secretary will only relinquish his position when his tenure expires. This is not the first time we are having such a scenario because a former PDP national chairman, Chief Audu Ogbeh, had once doubled as party national chairman and a presidential adviser," the ANPP spokesman said.
