Chose calling on the presidential candidate of the All Nigeria Peoples Party, (ANPP), Gen. Mohammadu Buhari to withdraw his case at the Supreme Court over the April 2007 presidential election have been described as either misled, misinformed or incapable of understanding the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
This was expressed by the director general of the Buhari Campaign Organization, Alhaji Sule Hamman in a chat with LEADERSHIP WEEKEND. He further stressed that such persons that promote the idea are merely promoting a one–party system which in effect, is a betrayal, first of the constitution and then of the wishes of the people of Nigeria.
"This is because the constitution presumes that Nigeria will be a multi-party democracy, where political parties will compete for power and those who win will govern alongside those that are out of power, providing effective and constructive opposition in order to ensure accountability, a sense of responsibility and genuine rule of law," he said.
While reacting to the statement credited to the presidency that Buhari has a weak case he said it was of no relevance but that the case will be determined by the facts of the case which are verifiable and accessible, adding "Also, we rely on the presumption of the constitution that facts and legal issues pertaining to election petition will be interpreted in such a manner that will appear to strengthen and ensure a transparently free and fair electoral process."
