South Africa: Thanda Say 'No' to Hussein

10 October 2008

Thanda Zulu Royal have given the thumbs down to Burundian defender Banza Hussein.

Initial reports were that the Swedish consortium-owned club were close to signing the 24-year-old in a bid to strengthen their defence.

However, coach Roger Palmgren told Durban's Daily News that the 24-year-old did not measure up to what they were looking for and would not be joining his countryman Aimee Kitenge at Thanda.

"We don't want another man-marker as such, because we already have Tonic Chabalala and Ahmed Mohammed, but are looking for somebody to help control the backline." Palmgren is quoted as saying.

The right-footed central defender has been training with Thanda for the past two weeks.

Though Hussein has previously played in the Burundi national team he has not been called up for any of the games in the current 2010 World Cup\Afcon qualifiers.

Thanda still have two foreign spaces open. Currently, the three foreigners registered on their books are Nigerian Felix Obada, Jonas Oketola of Benin and Ghanaian Ahmed Mohammed.
