Luanda — USA's deputy assistant secretary of Defence for African Affairs, Theresa Merie Whelan, this Friday here considered "excellent" the result of her visit to Angola aimed at reinforcing the military cooperation between the two States.
The US military officer made this affirmation to ANGOP at Luanda's "4 de Fevereiro" International Airport, at the end of her three-day visit to the country, having also said that "she was very happy with the work fulfilled" in the national territory.
During her stay in Angola, Theresa Whelan met with the ministers of Foreign Affairs, Assunção Afonso dos Anjos, of Defece, Kundy Pahiama, with the chief of staff of the Angolan Armed Forces, as well as visited some military units.
In her brief assessment declarations, the deputy assistant secretary said that audiences granted by Angolan authorities served t debate the new perspectives of military cooperation between both countries in various fields of defence.
Concerning this issue, she referred that the objectives of her visit to Angola were perfectly achieved and will enable continuous debates on bilateral collaboration aspects.
Regarding programmes part in the new cooperation era between Angola and USA, Theresa Whelan avoided detailing aspects of the projects, having only said that both parties will continue working towards holding joint military trainings, training of staff, assistance to aid and the combat to HIV/AIDS, English language teaching, among other areas.
Theresa Marie Whelan, who ended this Friday her third official work mission to Angola, has experience in her position more than 20 years in the defence intelligence and defence policy communities, from which 17 focusing on African issues.
At the airport, the Pentagon's deputy assistant secretary for African Affairs received farewell greetings from the deputy minister of Defence, Admiral Gaspar Rufino, senior officers of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA) and from members of USA embassy in Angola.
