Luanda — At least Usd 32 million have been released by Angola Global Fund to fight malaria in two years time.
This is under an agreement signed by the Health minister, José Van-Dúnem, and the chairman of Angola Global Fund Coordination Mechanism, Carlos Alberto.
Speaking to journalists, the minister said that malaria continues being the main cause of death among children and pregnant women in Angola.
The minister further stated that the Government will continue working with partners to fund programmes to fight the disease.
The official thanked the technical teams for the hard work towards developing proposals with the Global Fund to approve the amount.
José Van-Dúnem, on the occasion praised the United Nations and NGOs effort in seeking to eradicate malaria from Angola as a problem of public health in the country.
According to Fátima Sayundo, Global Fund technical unit coordinator, the funding will help ease the problems facing the country in this field.
The national programme against malaria has designed a plan to reduce the impact of malaria in Angola by 60 percent.
The coordinator said the main targets are children aged below five years and pregnant women.
She added that the Health Ministry has designed a strategy for distribution of mosquito nets, reinforcement of the engagement of people involved in widening the access to Coarten and speaking of prevention techniques.
