Zimbabwe: Dino, Willom Fight Over Woman?

11 October 2008

Harare — The reunion of former song mates Dino Mudondo and Willom Tight during a recent social soccer match in Mabvuku turned into an eventful day of fights and near-fights at Pamuzinda and Westlea Shopping Centre over a woman.

The day started well with Dino driving to Mabvuku for a high profile boozers' tournament that also featured Power FM's Dr Zobha as a referee and DJ Squilla as goalkeeper for a guest side.

city.com is reliably informed that when Dino hooked up with his long time friend Willom, they decided to go on a drinking binge starting in Mabvuku.

Later in the evening, the pair cruised all over Harare exploring other watering holes in the company of friends including a lady who is believed to be one of the financiers on the day.

The first major incident took place at Pamuzinda.

Dino and Willom are said to have been in the company of female friends and an unnamed lady, believed to be an ex-girlfriend of Dino confronted the musician and allegedly said:

"Today you don't want to greet us because you are in the company of prostitutes . . ."

This is said to have infuriated Dino and Willom's partners and a fight erupted and it became a free-for-all affair as the musicians allegedly joined in and fought with the gentlemen who were accompanying Dino's "ex-girlfriend".

It is further alleged that Dino's partner emerged with a scarred face.

After "enjoying" themselves at Pamuzinda Highway X-scape they decided to make their way back to the city centre but stopped over at Westlea Shopping Centre for a refill.

Witnesses told city.com that the pair was visibly drunk but could not give up the bottle moving from bar to bar.

They are said to have met a woman, who once went out with Dino, and Willom allegedly grabbed her behind, which incensed Dino.

Witnesses added that the duo started quarrelling in one of the bars before retreating outside on realising that they had attracted attention.

They are however, said to have shoved each other while shouting some obscenities in the car park.

"I heard and saw them shouting and pushing each other at the car park and I was shocked to see our celebrities behaving this way.

"Even some waitresses at Club M5 saw them shoving each other but could not do anything. Mukadzi wavainge vainaye ndiye akazovadhumhanisa misoro zvinoitwa vana vadiki vasinganzwe and the fracas ended.

"Then, the lady ordered them into the car and drove away," said one club deejay at Club M5.

But when contacted for comment early this week, Dino confirmed having visited the shopping centre and downed some beers but he scoffed at reports that he was involved in a scuffle over a woman.

"Its all lies. We are good friends (with Willom) and we had never fought before. Why should we fight today?

"In fact what happened is that we are the ones who actually restrained some guys who were quarrelling outside.

"If I may tell you the truth, me and Willom we are so tight and I was happy to meet him in Mabvuku and that is why we decided to go on a binge. Of course when that fracas ensured, we just pushed each other me and Willom but it was never a fight.

"In fact, I am the one who drove Willom back home after that fracas people are talking about."

Willom claimed that he would never fight Dino saying he was happy to have met him after some time.

"I had never fought anyone in my life. Nyaya ndeyekuti boys rimwe rataive naro rairamba kuenda kumba saka taingapopotedzana zvevanhu vakadhakwa," he said.

"I enjoyed his company that weekend. We enjoyed ourselves peacefully and I don't know where this is coming from.

"At the moment I am actually fighting to finish my project and not other people. Next week, I will be going to South Africa to polish my album.

"To be honest, the story that I think you should write about me is that I have just finished working on my latest album and it has been a long time while I have been quiet for some time.

"On my forth-coming album, I worked with such big names as Andy Brown, Phillip Svosve and Jairos Hamba Hamba," he said.

Willom said despite keeping a low profile, he has been holding a series of shows with Adam Chiswo with the help of Chimanimani Festival organiser Steve "Sparx Brown.

"For my progress guys, you can contact Sparx who has been assisting me and not these issues about me fighting my friend," he added.
