Harare — The future of the once popular and vibrant sungura music outfit R&K seems to be hanging in the balance.
Leaders of the group -Rangarirai Sagombeto and Kelvin Chikore- have "hanged their guitars" in recent years and are now pursuing different careers from music in an effort to survive.
city.com last week discovered that Kelvin, who is often seen loitering at Makoni Shopping Centre in Chitungwiza, is now a foreign currency dealer among other street "activities" while Rangarirai is reported to be in Bietbridge.
Ranga is said to have joined a group of drivers, known as maJapan, who are hired to drive imported Japanese cars - destined for DRC -from the Beitbridge border post to Chirundu.
"You can come to the place I operate from under a big tree close to the terminus where you will find a white car under that tree. That is where we do our business from," said Kelvin.
However, Kelvin said he still had music plans with Rangarirai although they were currently involved in different businesses.
"It's not that we have split, it's only that Ranga is in Beitbridge and also the royalties we receive are after every three months are a pittance.
"One cannot survive out of them because they would have been hit by inflation by the time we receive them," he said. Kelvin also said they had deferred the release of their album to next month because they wanted the "talks' to conclude before they could release it.
"At the moment we can't release the album because we are waiting for madhara to conclude their talks before we can then release the album," he said.
