Ghana, for the 2nd time, is hosting the Exquisite Face of the Universe 2008 pageant, to promote tourism in the country, and aid the Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin II Charity Fund.
The delegates from 40 countries would be taken through a series of activities, which include tours of the Cape Coast Castle, Elmina Castle, Kakum Forest, and other important tourist sites in the country.
The pageant is being organised by First Royal Events, to give young women the opportunity to reach for the top award at the national and international levels.
The Exquisite Face of the Universe, which would commence on Saturday, October 18, this year, seeks to identify beauty, talent, poise and attitude in ordinary young women, according to the Director of First Royal Events, Ms. Adjua Sarpongma Barado.
At a press briefing yesterday in Accra, she stated that a special platform would be given to delegates to reach for the stars, through giant strides on the catwalks, as well as advocacy on issues concerning women. She indicated that the event began in 2006, with 22 delegates from around the world, to mark Ghana's Golden Jubilee celebrations.
"The initiative was taken as our little contribution to the celebration of the nation's 51st Anniversary, showcase Ghana as tourist attraction centre, and also bring to bare the advancements Ghana has recorded in the beauty, fashion, textiles, modeling and entertainment industries, since the pageant is an embodiment of these," she stated.
The pageant that lasted for three weeks was full of action, fun and schedules. The delegate from Bosina took away the ultimate, and was seconded by Tracy Awuni from Ghana.
This year the queen would walk away with US$8,000 plus award plaque, 1st Runner-up would also be given US$3,000 plus award plaque and the 2nd Runner-up would go home with US$2,000 plus award plaque.
There would be other prizes to be won like Exquisite Beauty Face, Exquisite Walk, Exquisite Evening Gown, Exquisite National Costume, Exquisite Congeniality, Exquisite Africa, Exquisite Asia, Exquisite America and Exquisite Europe.
The Director asserted that the organisation faced financial problems in the previous years, which hampered the progress of organising an event of such a nature.
"We are determined to carry on and carry through," she indicated. She then appealed to all stakeholders, to give their immense support towards the development of the country, and the entertainment industry.
