Nairobi — The recent by-election for Tarime constituency has seen major violence between the political parties that fielded candidates to vie for the seat left vacant by the late Chacha Wangwe, who died in a road accident in Dodoma.
The election saw two major political parties from the Tanzania mainland -- the ruling party Chama cha Mapinduzi (CCM) and Chama cha Demokrasia na Maendeleo (Chadema) -- fighting each other, forcing the police to intervene.
But what is raising eyebrows within the international community is that most of those being arrested for the chaos are from Chadema.
What is needed to sort out the mess in Tarime is political will. Politicians must not be allowed to execute selfish agendas at the expense of human life and property.
