Luanda — The ambassador of Equatorial Guinea to Angola, Eustaquio Nseng Esono, Friday in Luanda considered as deep and on the rise the relations of cooperation and friendship between the two countries.
Speaking to ANGOP, on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the independence of his country, on Sunday, the diplomat highlighted the old common historical ties that unite Angola and Equatorial Guinea, leading to the establishment of relations of friendship, cooperation, solidarity and mutual respect.
"It is with the wish to further strengthen our ties that we decided to open diplomatic offices in both capitals, in 2005," he stressed.
In the last three years, among the various actions carried out by the two governments, stress goes to the exchange of experience and visits of
high ranking officials, such as the state visit of the President Teodoro Obiang to Angola in February 2006.
At that time, he recalled, five cooperation agreements were signed in Luanda, in addition to other multi-sectoral arrangements. The areas covered were those of Oil, Defence, Security, Transport, Education, Fisheries and Inter-parliamentary cooperation.
Exploration of the exclusive economic zone (300 square kilometres of territorial sea) and the opening of a Luanda/Malabo direct air route is considered as future action.
Within the context of reciprocity, Angola head of State, José Eduardo dos Santos, also visited a year later, in February 2007, the Republic of Equatorial Guinea.
The ambassador said that the result of the exchange in these three years is quite positive.
Within the framework of the deepening of relations of cooperation, a forum on investment opportunities will be held with the aim of setting up joint ventures, a proposal defended by the Angolan head of State then.
According to the diplomat, new horizons for cooperation between the two countries, with mutual opportunities, will be established.
Eustaquio Nseng Esono concluded that all these aspects will be discussed and reviewed at the meeting of the Joint Commission set for the first quarter of 2009.
