Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State has been commended over the restoration of C of O of the 10th Anniversary Hotel back to its original owner.
The president of Arewa Youths Consultative Forum (AYCF), Alhaji Yerima Shettima praised the governor in a telephone interview with Vanguard as he stated that the benevolent decision of the governor was not surprising as he himself was a recent beneficiary of justice.
It will be recalled that the10th Anniversary Hotel was sold in 2005 by the Victor Attah administration to Jojein Ventures Limited (JVL), an indigenous firm owned by Mr. Sunday Folorunsho Idowu but later the C of O was revoked in April 2007 by the same government.
According to Shettima, "the decision of the governor was a welcome development as it has restored the hope of Nigerians in the common destiny of all Nigerian people and at a time like this, when a government decision resonates so well with the governed, we cannot but applaud it".
"The decision of ex-governor Victor Attah raised doubts over our commitment to national unity, but with the recent restoration of the C of O to Mr. Idowu of Jojein Ventures Ltd, our faith is once more renewed that all Nigerians, irrespective of tribe, culture and religion, can live freely within the national borders and pursue their dreams, whether it is work or business".
"The 10th Anniversary hotel saga was an ugly sore on the body of social justice, inter-ethnic harmony and good neighourliness, but Akpabio has shown that the ideal of one-nation, one-destiny is still achievable, and we identify with him in all ramifications," he argued.
Calling on people in government to act responsibly, the Arewa chieftain advised those in authority that the ultimate goal of power is social good and those who exercise power without being mindful of this will soon discover that an irresponsible use of power turns into the powder of shame sooner than later.
