One time board member of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and proprietor of Jasper United of Onitsha, Chief Jude Ezechukwu, has flouted an Under 17 football competition named after the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Abubakar Sa'ad Mohammed.

The competition, which will be competed for by all the secondary schools in the country and slated for December, has a budget of N12 million with the final match billed for the Sokoto State capital. According to the organizer, Chief Ezechukwu, the aim of the competition, apart from further helping in the development of the game from the grassroots, it is meant to honour a friend who shares the same football ideology with him.

"To God be the glory, the Sultan is today the spiritual head of the Muslims and one of the leaders of our great country, Nigeria. Before he came the Sultan, we have been friends and he contributed to the success of my team, Jasper United then. So, this competition is ostensibly to recognize his contribution to the development of the game and also to honour him as my very good friend. This is the only way I can appreciate what he has done for me", he said.

On the modality for the competition, Chief Ezechukwu explained that all the Local Government Areas in the country will produce a winner each and would be divided into four zones where two quarter finalist each would emerge until they get to the final stage. "The final will be played in the state capital with the winner getting N5 million, the second placed team N3 million while the third place team will smile home with N1 million", he disclosed.
