South Africa: Chiefs to Appeal Mthembu Decision

Kaizer Chiefs are to appeal against the decision reached by the Dispute Resolution Committee in the matter surrounding the signing of former Maritzburg City striker Siphelele Mthembu.

"The verdict that favoured Orlando Pirates for the services of Mthembu has obviously jolted our resolve to pursue the matter further," says Amakhosi boss Kaizer Motaung today in his column of the club's website.

"This can only be done after consultation with the players' parents and the legal team that is currently handling the matter. It is indeed unfortunate for the player, but we are conscious and respectful of the decision by the Dispute Resolution Committee (DRC).

"I am just concerned that some detractors are apportioning blame at us; something that I find premature at this stage considering our intention to pursue the matter.

"We do feel hard-done by, but nothing stops us from trying other channels to register our appeal for the decision to be reconsidered. We shall make the necessary pronouncements when the time is right."

Chiefs' seven-day deadline in which to lodge their appeal ends on Wednesday.
