Nigeria: Ikhana Hospitalised in Kaduna

13 October 2008

Sharks manager, Kadiri Ikhana has been hospitalised in Kaduna after being attacked by fans on Sunday evening.

Irate fans gave Ikhana the beating of his life shortly after Sharks beat home side and league leaders, Kaduna United 1-0 at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna.

Media officer of the club, Confidence Idaa told KickOffNigeria.com that Ikhana was attacked by fans shortly after the encounter ended.

"Ikhana is in a bad state and has been hospitalised. In fact he can't even hear us clearly," Idaa told KickOffNigeria.com at 19h00 on Sunday.

"As soon as the match ended some fans accosted him just as he was leaving the pitch and started beating him up.

"It was as if they planned it from when they knew we were going to win the match because they were waiting for him and they were so many.

"He has been hospitalised and I got information that he could not hear properly and I do not know what that means for now until I go to the clinic where he is and get better information for you," Confidence Idaa said.

Sharks won their first road game of the season on Sunday, beating Kaduna United 1-0, a goal scored by rookie player, Azuka.

Sharks central defender, Kelechi Iroh was red carded with about ten minutes to go but Sharks held on for a deserved victory.
