Nigeria: Enyimba Are Just Bitter - Odeniran

13 October 2008

Former referee, James Odeniran says Enyimba are just bitter and that is why he has been accused wrongly once again.

Enyimba's media officer, Tonnex Chukwu told KickOffNigeria.com that James Odeniran was at the centre when they beat JUTH 1-0 in Jos even though he failed the referees Cooper Test and had handed over his retirement letter.

"I was resting in Ibadan when I got a call asking if I was at the centre in a league match and I wondered how that could have been when I was no longer a referee," Odeniran told KickOffNigeria.com.

"It is sad that any body could say that when it was clear I did not officiate that match and it only shows that the Enyimba people can go any length to mislead people.

"I took it as a grievous offence but as long as you said you are going to recant your story I will leave it alone," Odeniran said.

"They have a match ahead of them in Cairo and rather they are thinking about a match that they lost last year in Jos. I think it was not fair on me and that is me speaking my mind now."

The center referee for the match was actually Segun Oyedotun who is also from Oyo state.

"Oyedotun is just a young referee coming up but he has had about three seasons in the Premier League so how can any body mistake him for me?

"I won't take offense anymore. As long as you have called me and you now know the truth I will take it as one of those things in life but journalists must learn to cross check their stories."
