Kigali — A new aircraft to operate Kigali-Johannesburg routes arrives today, revealed a source within Rwandair.
The Boeing 737-500 leased from Air Namibia has 22 seats in the business class, 88 seats in economy class and a cruising speed of 928 km/h.
The airline plans to resume flights tomorrow after suspending operations in April due to lack of a suitable aircraft, a move that had left thousands of passengers stranded.
Sources from Rwandair-Express say the scheduled flight includes a flight from Johannesburg at 10 pm and will be arriving in Kigali 1.30 am every Wednesday.
The sources add that Air Namibia is to provide the aircraft, crew, and maintenance and pay insurance. Rwandair is only to provide fuel, landing, handling, parking fees and meet other operational costs.
The airline plans to purchase three aircrafts within seven years. It also intends to start flights to Gisenyi by October, Dar es Salaam, and Zanzibar before the end this year.
