Nigeria: IG Cup - Committee Ready With Logo, Mascot

The Nigerian Police are determined to take their pride of place in Nigerian sports. There was a time when the Nigerian Police provided athletes, boxers, players and they performed brilliantly well for Nigeria.

Apparently aware of those good old days, the organization of the IG Cup is to take an international dimension soon as the management committee of the competition moves this weekend to consider acceptable logo and mascot for the event that is aimed to reshape the horizon of Nigeria football in a big way.

Inspector-General of Police, Mike Okiro and his team of able lieutenants have shown tremendous interest to reshaping the horizon of Nigerian football in the Force and the country in general.

"We have received a pool of logos and mascot submitted at the committee's secretariate in Lagos by well meaning Nigerians who are determined to ensure that the competition which is the first of it's kind in the country succeeds. Hence the Committee will deliberate on these documents with a view to selecting the corporate logo and mascot that best illustrates the essence of the competition," Publicity Chair-man of the IG Cup, Austin Mgbolu said.

Mgbolu who was former image maker of the Nigeria Football Association, NFA, said that apart from promoting love, friendship and camaraderie within the force, the event will reconfirm the well known assertion that the police is the single known institution in the country that has proved to be a major provider of poll of talents, to Nigerian sports.

The committee during their deliberations will look into other areas such as fixing dates for the playoffs and final, appointment of the technical team, explore marketing options in the light of mounting enquiries from potential sponsors who want to identify with the good work that Nigerian police are doing and finally work out an acceptable action plan for the event.
