Abakaliki — In addition to its crisis of Vice Chancellor successor, the Ebonyi State University, EBSU, is trading words with the state government over the cause of admission racketing that has engulfed the nine years old university.

In a press conference conducted by Dr. Nwakpu flanked by the immediate past Chairman, Stephen Chima, Rowland Akande and Mr. Ude-Umanta Emmanuel, the Academic Staff Union of Universities, (ASUU) EBSU chapter accused the government of Chie F. Martin Elechi of admission racketeering and undue interference.

The university authority cited a letter from the Secretary to the State Government to the out-going Vice Chancellor, Professor Fidelis Ogah, directing the VC to give special preferences to sons and daughters of top government officials.

But the SSG, Fidelis Mbam in reaction told newsmen that what is at stake is the issue of the university's amended law which he said has not been debated by the Executive Council.

Mbam denied that he was deliberately sitting on the draft for his selfish aspirations since according to him Governor Elechi knows how best to run his government.

The SSG rather blamed the problems of EBSU, to all manner of interests within the university authority that want to produce the next Vice Chancellor of the institution.

Mbam agreed that he authored the letter mandating EBSU authorities to withdraw the advertorial as well as the one extending the tenure of the present Governing Council in obedience to the State Government's decision on the matter.
