HOP lovers are in for an early Christmas present as South African music station, Channel O, is set to rock the country on a Ruffcuts-Channel O Christmas Festival Sadc Hip-Hop tour later this month.
Channel O is a South African-based music channel, which started transmission in the early 1990s.
Its main concept is black music in Africa and the Diaspora. It can be accessed on DStv, a cable network service for African households.
Marco Machona, founder and chief executive officer of Ruffcuts Wear, told Standardplus that Channel O had agreed to join Ruffcuts Wear in hosting the event in Zimbabwe and several Southern Africa states.
"Channel O brand manager Lester Din agreed to a concept originated by Ruffcuts Wear to grace the event and uplift the spirits of the youth who need something else than politics to enhance their lives," he said.
He said two shows would be held in Harare on October 24 and 25 and in Bulawayo on October 31 and November 1, with Channel O's most popular disk jockeys, camera crew and staff. However, Din said they were still finalizing the dates.
Machona said the theme of the tour was: A smile and a little dance, uplifting the spirits of the youth through hip-hop. The tour will also showcase Zimbabwean hip-hop artists' talent. The programme will include hip-hop dance competitions and fashion shows.
The Ruffcuts label has made its mark locally, being the first local brand to sign a premier league soccer club, Caps United, as a merchandise partner.
