Disturbed by the alarming cases of mortality, the Jigawa State government has called on female councillors in the 27 local government councils to map out modalities aimed at curbing the menace The call was made by the state Commissioner for Women Affairs ,Hajia Fatima Jalo at a workshop organised on maternal mortality for women councillors and journalists in Dutse.
Jalo who was represented by a permanent secretary in the ministry observed that high rate of maternal mortality was a source of great concern to the state government , adding that the workshop was aimed at sensitising women councillors and journalists on their roles in curbing the trend . "you women councillors ,by virture of your closeness to the women at the grassroots have a vital role to play in curbing this menace, just as the journalist would also play a significant role in creating awareness among all stake holders through the information dissemination strategies ", she said.
She further revealed that as part of effort to reduce the scourge , the state government recently approved N32.4 million for safe motherhood initiatives in the state ,adding that already, vehicles for emergency obstetric care were provided at some selected health centers in addition to free medical care introduced by the state government for pregnant women and children.
