Lagos — The Federal Road Safety Comissition (FRSC) has made proposal to be part of state governors convoy in order to reduce over speeding and prevent road accident.
The zonal commander of the FRSC in charge of Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara States, Mr samuel Obayemi, in an interview with THISDAY in Benin-Kebbi said, some states have already accepted the proposals.
According to obayemi, if the FRSC officials are part of governors' convoy, they will also regulate the speed of other drivers.He said already Sokoto State in the zone had already given verbal approval only awaiting official leter from government."What we are trying to do to further reduce overspeeding is to be part of governor' convoys.
Already we have instructed our sector commanders to get in touch with government houses in their states, already in sokoto State. We have gotten verbal approval on this issue only awaiting official letter from the state government.
So, as long as we received the letter our patrol vehicle will be part of governors' convoy," he said. Mr obayemi explained that if the FRSC was able to control overspeeding of governors' convoys and governors' drivers, it will be easier for them to controll other drivers.
Mr. Obayemi stated that the comission is committed to reducing the rate of accident to the bearest minimum during the ember months, adding "Although we are trying to reduce accident to the barest minimum in this zone, but their are reckless drivers who have not been the obeying traffick rules and regulations".
He enjoined people to always obey road traffic regulations, pointing out that, the commission will continue with its enlightnment campaign untill they change their attitude.
