Tanzania: Mkombozi Kids Off to UK to Play Rugby

Arusha — Ten boys and two guardians from Mkombozi Centre for Street Children in Moshi are in the United Kingdom to to participate in the Tullow Oil Touraid Cup under-13 rugby tournament.

The boys are hosted at Rokeby Prep School near Kingston-Upon-Thames, an outer borough of Greater London.

According to a press statement made available to the Arusha Times, Round-robin play took place on Thursday, 9 October at Cobham Rugby Club in Cobham, Surrey. Finals will take place on Saturday, 11 October at Esher Rugby Club, in Walton-On-Thames, starting at 11:00 am. Saturday matches will be followed by KO Esher versus Manchester RFC at 3:00 pm.

Mkombozi players and guuardians include Musa Joseph, Riziki Michael, Haji Stambuli, Ezrom Karanjai, Joachim Paulo, Mohamed Abdallah, Muddy Cobra, Benedict Urio, Hatibu Mkilindi, Philemon Mosha, Simon Nyembe Stephano - Mkombozi Sports Educator, and Jerome Sam-De Mwaya - Mkombozi Senior Supervisor

Through rugby touraid helps enhance the lives of youngsters overseas with the opportunity to tour the UK for a week, experience a different culture and embrace hope and new opportunities for the future.

Through the host schools, parents and their children legacies are developing that allow children to believe that they can have a better future. To date, touraid has hosted 24 different tours from 19 countries. touraid is giving children a chance to tour for a week and make friends for a lifetime.

Mkombozi is a non-government organization based in Kilimanjaro and Arusha regions, working with disadvantaged children to offer them life-empowering opportunities. The program was founded in 1997 by Kate McAlpine, a British citizen now living in Arusha.

Touraid is a UK-based non-government organization bringing together kids from all over the world.
