Angola: Health Situation in Country Improved, Says Minister

Luanda — The sanitary situation in Angola has improved since 2002, when the peace agreement was signed, the Angolan Health minister, José Van-Dúnem, has recently said.

Speaking to ANGOP, José Van-Dúnem said that although the sanitary situation is not yet the desired one, it has got better compared to the sanitary framework during the war.

According to the official, the Ministry of Planning is creating the conditions to carry out a national survey that will show that the health indicators in Angola have improved a lot.

One of the government priorities for the next four years is to decrease the maternal and children death rate and those diseases whose prevention is done through vaccination.

To the minister, it is necessary to guarantee the offer of a series of services so as to decrease the incidence of diseases that cause more damage to the population and that are the main causes of death.

The politician reminded that the main causes of death in Angola are malaria, diarrhoea, respiratory diseases and illnesses that are prevented through vaccination.

José Van-Dúnem recognised that the Ministry of Health faces difficulties in terms of human resources, therefore the government counts on foreign cooperation to place physicians in districts, to increase the quality and offer of sanitary services.
