Angola: Court Confirms Sentences Given to Former Intelligence Officials

Luanda — The Plenary of the Angolan Military Supreme Court turned down the appeal lodged by the lawyers of the former officers of the External Intelligence Services (SIE), who have been condemned for the crime of insubordination.

A press note from the Military Supreme Court which reached ANGOP last Friday, states that this institution confirmed the four year-prison sentence given to lieutenant-general Fernando Garcia Miala, who was the former SIE chief, and the two years and six months prison sentence for lieutenant-colonel Miguel Francisco André.

The court also decided to change the prison sentence of two years and six months passed to the lieutenant-colonels Maria da Conceição and Ferraz António, by benefiting from an extraordinary reduction of their respective penalties to one year and three months imprisonment.
